Who is eligible to apply?
Graduates in Creative Arts & Design who have completed a Graduate or Post-Graduate Program in Design.
What should the Statement of Intent include?
A handwritten statement of what you would like to work on during your fellowship. Be specific — vague statements are not competitive. The Selection Committee is looking for depth and seriousness of intent, not credentials.
Is there a structured program to follow?
No. The fellowship is explicitly unstructured. There are no courses to attend, no modules to complete, no institutional obligations beyond the body of work presented at the close of the year. Periodic informal discussion sessions and conversations with senior partners and visiting artists provide intellectual companionship — not a program. There is no evaluation.
Is there any cost to apply or take part?
None. The fellowship is fully funded by SAKS through sponsorship. The stipend of Rs 50,000 is paid directly to each fellow on the first of each month. SAKS does not charge fellows a program fee, application fee, or any other cost at any stage.
Where do fellows stay?
Fellows arrange their own accommodation in Puducherry. Guidance on housing options near the Ashram, in the French Quarter, and in Auroville is provided on selection.
Are international fellows welcome?
Yes. The fellowship is international. Fellows are responsible for their own visa arrangements — SAKS provides a letter of support.
